Delonghi Nespresso Lattissima One EN500 Review

Our score after analysing 4 expert reviews and hundreds of user reviews.

Perfect for households on the go, the Lattissima One heats up in just 25 seconds and makes milky coffees at the touch of a button. Coffee from the Lattissima One tastes great, but the machine does feel less premium than other models and lacks the ability to choose your own milk quantity.

Product Overview

The Lattissima One is the entry level model in the Nespresso Lattissima range from DeLonghi. It’s input power and pump pressure are on par with the more premium models in the range and it’s water capacity of 1 Litre is slightly higher than the Touch but less than the Pro.

With a super-fast heat up time of just 25 seconds, the Lattissima one won’t slow you down in the morning. It features an easy-to-use one-touch brewing system that delivers espresso, lungo, or both espresso and frothed milk for a cappuccino or latte macchiato.

The milk is dispensed by a wand that needs to be directed over your cup. The milk container  must be removed and washed between each use, which can be done by hand or in the dishwasher.

The Lattissima also features an auto power-off function that kicks in after 9 minutes which will save you from leaving the machine on all day.

Summary Analysis of 4 x Expert Reviews

The Nespresso Lattissima One is an easy to use machine that makes great tasting coffee. It does, however, have minimal customisation options notably around milk volume. The other main drawback is that the milk container needs cleaning between each use and this must be done manually (as opposed to a button that activates a cleaning function on the other Lattissima machines).

The brewing process is fairly noisy but delivers well balanced coffee at a good temperature and with impressive crema.

In terms of construction, it looks nice, but some parts, such as the cup stand and the water tank, do feel a bit flimsy. Further, being on the smaller side of Nespresso machines, the empty capsule compartment is quite small, meaning you’ll need to empty it regularly.

  • Coffee has a nice crema, is a good temperature, and tastes great

  • Milk container must be removed and cleaned between each coffee
  • Drips for a while once brewing complete
  • Cup stand and water container feel flimsy
  • Empty capsule tray is small
  • Milk spurts out erratically

Lattissima One Review Analysis

Design and Construction (7/10)

The design of the Lattissima One is sleek and modern and would look great on most kitchen counters. The water container easily clips in and out however it does feel a bit flimsy. The cup stand has a handy sliding mechanism but it doesn’t feel particularly secure, and it also feels a bit plasticy and not what you’d expect to find on a premium machine.

Taste & Temperature (8/10)

The coffee produced by the Lattissima One tastes great and has a nice, distinct crema on the espresso. Both the espresso and milk based coffees are served at acceptable temperatures and the quality is consistent. “Out of all of the Lattissimas, this is the best tasting” – A2B Productions

Ease of Use (6/10)

This machine is very newbie friendly and is exceptionally easy to use. It also gets up to temperature in only 25 seconds so is ready to go almost instantly. If you’re not happy with the set espresso or lungo quantities, you can customise the amount of coffee that is dispersed by holding down the espresso/lungo button and releasing at your desired level. What’s more, the machine remembers this for next time so you can now create your preferred drink at the touch of a button.

Drawbacks include the fact that the machine doesn’t appear to be made for a full sized coffee mug and is quite loud when brewing. It also seems to drip for a while once the brewing is complete. Further, the empty capsule container is quite small so needs to be emptied frequently.

Milk Frothing (5/10)

The beauty of the Lattissima’s milk frother is that it simply dispenses the milk for you and involves no manual input. There’s also a clever optical sensor that senses how much milk is left in the container to improve accuracy.

There is, however, only one setting for the milk frother, meaning you are quite limited in the type of coffee you make. In fact, there’s not even the option to manually set the milk output volume to more or less. Due to the size, you also need to refill the milk container between each coffee, which may be a hassle in busy households.

Cleaning & Maintenance (6/10)

The good news about cleaning the Lattissima One is that all parts that require cleaning are dishwasher safe. The bad news is that the milk container must be removed, taken apart, and washed between each coffee. Contrast this with the Lattissima Touch and Pro, where you simply press a button to activate the cleaning function, and this seems like quite a chore.
